12:29PM - Hello! Who's out there??

Hi folks!  I was surprised though not distressed to see that I've been "added as a maintainer" of this community.  I'm curious:  Is anyone actually HERE anymore?? The last thing on the page was something I posted, about 18 months ago.  What's up for everyone?  Do you want to have conversations here?

In the meantime, I'm doing a Spring Spa Day at my place this coming Sunday March 8th:
http://www.loveoutsidethebox.com/spring-spa-day.html
Not poly-specific, but poly folk are welcome as always!

And then on March 31, I'm presenting a workshop on the 5 Love Languages (with special attention to their use in Multiple Relationships):
http://www.loveoutsidethebox.com/store/p40/5_Love_Languages_Workshop.html
If more than one of you wishes to attend and registers together, I'll create a group rate for you!  Give me a call to work it out:  510-686-3386

Hope all here are well!

4:30PM - Swim & Fright Night @ EBPP/DG 10/30 - Oakland

Hi poly, open, and poly-friendly folks!

The next East Bay Poly Potluck and Discussion Group will happen THIS Wednesday October 30th, at Ann G's in Oakland!
GET DIRECTIONS & RSVP on the Google Spreadsheet:
http://bit.ly/1fn6MsM

!!! Weather permitting, Ann's POOL WILL BE OPEN! (please bring your own towel and a $5-10 donation if you intend to swim.) !!!

(You don't have to live in the East Bay to attend. The East Bay is where we HOLD this event!)

Doors open: 5:00 for potluck and SWIMMING!
Short discussion at 7:30pm
Clean up begins: 9:30pm
Doors close: 10pm

Come join us for casual conversation, a delicious potluck dinner (ovo-lacto-pescatarian!--NO MEAT or CHICKEN!), and a pleasant evening with like-minded people. Polyamorous, poly-curious, and poly-friendly folks of all persuasions are welcome. (Kids are welcome, with adult supervision.)

Discussion topic:
Boo!  What's SCARY in your poly/open relationships?  How do you deal with these feelings? Related topic: What MASKS do you wear, and how do they protect you, help you, or hinder you?  In former times in Ireland and Britain, the custom of placing candles in carved turnips (later, pumpkins) got started as part of the rituals to try to scare away ghosts and evil spirits at this time, the thinning of the veils between the worlds. Through our gathering and our sharing of wisdom, let's light some metaphorical candles against the dark side of multiple relationships! (Real carved pumpkins and candles ok with permission from our gracious hostess, Ann :)  Bonus points for "polyamorous pumpkins"!)

[NOTE:  One thing many people find scary in poly/open relationships is JEALOUSY.  If that's a feeling that turns you a ghoulish green, you might want to sign up to get the recording of Dawn Davidson and Kathy Labriola's 3rd and final FREE teleseminar on Jealousy! https://di986.infusionsoft.com/app/form/jfa3-options-call-signup]

THERE WILL BE SWIMMING!  Ann has generously offered to open her pool from 5:00pm to 7:30pm. If you intend to swim, please bring your own towel, and if you can, a donation of $5-10 to offset pool heating costs (which are greater at this late time of the year -- please help to support our hostess being able to offer this again!). Pool is "clothing optional".  Kids MAY be present (check with hostess first about bringing kids).

CAN YOU HELP with setup or cleanup?  Please write to AnnG if you can help out with setup (4:30 or 5pm) or cleanup (from 9:30 to 10pm): Ann Glucroft <annglucroft@gmail.com>

The tradition of this potluck/discussion is to RSVP, including the names of all guests. Directions are LINKED TO FROM the RSVP page. It's held in a private home, and that way we know who's coming; it's a safety and no-surprises thing. RSVP on the Google Doc: http://bit.ly/1fn6MsM. If you have difficulty updating the spreadsheet (Internet Explorer may fail), send an email to: eastbaypolydiscussion (at) gmail (dot) com, and we'll add your name to the list.

East Bay Poly Potluck also has a Yahoo group for discussion and announcements of interest to the East Bay poly community. If you're interested in joining, the web address is:

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/eastbaypolypotluck

Looking forward to seeing folks again soon!

Dawn (Facilitator) & Ann (hostess)

NOTES:

*This location is NOT close to BART. Nearest station is Rockridge or Ashby. We
prefer that you try to carpool. Please indicate on the spreadsheet if
you need a ride or can offer a ride. We may be able to arrange a BART
pickup if necessary.

*There is street parking but Hiller Dr. is a very steep street. There
is also space for 2 cars in the driveway.

*This is a lacto-ovo pescatarian household; Fish, seafood, eggs and dairy are OK; poultry, pork and other red meat are not. Also, no Bell Peppers please, as our hostess is allergic. Please plan your potluck contributions accordingly!

*Start time is relaxed, but please try to arrive in time to be settled
in time for the discussion, if possible. We will try to start the discussion at 7:30pm.

[For swimming: Bring your own towel if you wish to swim!  (And take it home with you. ;) $5-10 donation for pool heating is appreciated.]

*KIDS: Are allowed, with parental/guardian supervision. Please check with the hostess before bringing any kids: Ann Glucroft <annglucroft@gmail.com>

*Multiple cats are in residence!

*Scent free please!

*Please do not attend if you have a cold or anything contagious, thanks!

3:26PM - Two FREE Teleseminars, 10/17 and 10/21

Hi folks!

I wanted to let you know of the upcoming FREE webinars available on Thursday 10/17 at 6pm Pacific, and on Monday 10/21 at 5:45pm Pacific.

First up is one that I'm not directly involved in, but should be very interesting:

Curious about the polyamory community? Want some information about their attitudes about legal multi-partner marriage and their reports on their health and happiness as compared to the U.S. population as a whole? Attend this free webinar on the results of the largest survey ever conducted (N=4062) of self-identified polyamorous individuals, being presented on October 17 at 9 pm EDT by co-investigators Jim Fleckenstein and Darrell Cox, II. You can register for the free webinar, hosted by the research’s sponsor, Loving More, here: http://tinyurl.com/pgtmv27
The one next Monday October 21st, at 5:45pm Pacific time, is the third and FINAL call I'm doing on the topic of Jealousy, with Kathy Labriola:

https://di986.infusionsoft.com/app/form/jfa3-options-call-signup

The call includes: Another great Hypnotic Relaxation Exercise; Envy vs Coveting vs Jealousy; The Engineering Model and the Phobia Model: Two Key Approaches for Managing Jealousy; A step-by-step process to re-evaluate your beliefs and fears... and get back on top of your jealousy!; and time for more interactive discussion!
Miss either of the first two calls?  Then you might want to listen on the web, and/or sign up to get the downloadable materials:
http://www.loveoutsidethebox.com/free-reportstools.html
Hope you enjoy the calls!

FYI: The Weirdness Events Google Group is a very occasional and relatively low-traffic list for announcing our Poly Pool Parties (PPPs) and other events that we host here at our home and/or are involved in putting on. In general these events are local to the SF Bay Area, but occasionally we announce things that we're doing elsewhere in the country or online.

WELCOMING OF ALL: Please note that our parties are welcoming to people of all sizes, genders, ethnicities, sexual orientations, backgrounds, spiritual beliefs, political thoughts, etc. Guests are expected to behave in a manner that is courteous, respectful, and accepting of this diversity. (It's perfectly ok to have personal preferences, of course, as long as those preferences don't interfere with your ability to behave courteously towards others at the party.) If you have any questions about this policy, or about any other issues pertaining to our party, please feel free to contact us privately.

Are you so excited that you're ready to donate right now via PayPal?  Here's how! (BTW: Do us both a favor and choose PERSONAL when you donate, and neither you nor we will lose money on PayPal Fees. Thanks!!)

1:09PM - About [kid- and family-friendly] poly events: An Open Letter

Dear poly friends, parents, kids, and others:

I have, over the past 12 months or so, especially, heard complaints
about the lack of accommodation for parents (or other specific groups)
at the East Bay Poly Potlucks. I also have received concerns about
the proposal to combine the potlucks with the discussion groups, and
concern over this issue is one of the points raised. I'd like to
clarify some things.

1) No policy decisions have been made with regard to the presence or
absence of children at the September potluck/discussion group. You are
all free to register your thoughts and concerns here (about the kid
issue, or any issue of concern to you). In fact, I'd prefer we
discuss it here on the EBPP yahoo group, because that's what this list
is for--to discuss.

2) The admin team has been struggling to provide locations for both
potlucks and discussion groups for some time now. Kid-friendly
locations have been particularly difficult to find. It's not that we
haven't looked, but locations that meet all of our criteria (e.g.,
close to public transit, kid-friendly, reasonably accessible for those
of limited mobility, etc) have been very hard to find. Sometimes we
sacrifice one or more of our criteria, in order to meet most of them.
We're not happy about it, but this is what has been necessary to
continue to provide the service at all. cutCollapse )

8) Lastly, as Oberon Zell says, "If you don't want it, you can't have
any!" Don't like our events for some reason? There's probably someone
else out there doing something you'll like better. Please don't just
complain about what WE'RE doing--Go find something that actually meets
your needs! I just checked, and there are 11 meetup groups in the SF
Bay Area that are about or mention polyamory. That's just meetup!
There's lots out there, if you look. You can start with Pepper's
google calendar: http://www.pepperminty.com/sfbay-poly-calendar.html.
Gypsy also has a conglomerate calendar on meetup:
http://www.meetup.com/Bay-Area-Poly-Collective/

Thanks for listening, folks.
